A Legacy of Giving: Colette’s Story

8 June 2026

An older woman with short gray hair smiles warmly, wearing a black coat. She stands outside a building with blue accents, white walls, and large windows.

Family might be the one word you’d use to sum up Colette’s relationship with The Ottawa Mission and her commitment to leaving a charitable gift towards our cause in her will.

In her own words and with her own eyes, Colette sees the magic happening” here while volunteering in our shelter kitchen on a weekly basis. She appreciates the compassion and kindness shown to clients each and every day, something she also provides herself. So, it’s only fitting that Colette shares:

“I feel like I belong to The Mission family too.”

Beyond working alongside her Mission family in the kitchen, Colette values that we provide comprehensive services beyond food and shelter, including job training, education, healthcare, and addiction supports – addiction being something her own family has grappled with in the past.

All of this has added up to Colette deciding that she’d like to leave a legacy of helping those in need through a gift to The Ottawa Mission in her will.

Initially inspired by her mother, a very charitable person, Colette has seen and lived the impact that understanding, compassion, and comprehensive support has on those grappling with homelessness, mental health issues, addiction, and other challenges.

She’s spent years serving warm, nourishing meals to clients of The Mission before they’ve gone on to receive the counselling and supports they need to restore their lives and find homes of their own.

We would be honoured to invite you to become part of our Mission family and consider joining Colette by leaving a charitable gift in your will.
