Addiction & Trauma Services

We’re here to help you on your recovery journey

Breaking the cycle of addiction and trauma isn’t easy, but we’re here to help.

We offer 5 distinct addiction and trauma services (ATS) to help you step towards wellness and recovery.

From drop-in, to harm reduction, to abstinence-based programs, Ottawa Mission counsellors are ready to provide you with the support and resources you need.

Day Program

The Day Program is a daily drop-in space for men, including transgender men and non-binary individuals, to come together to talk about mental health, substance use health, and life’s challenges.

Clients focus on developing new skills and strategies for navigating addictions and mental well-being. The group combines peer connection, education, and practical skill-building.

To attend Day Program, you must be 18 years of age or older. Both shelter clients and community members are welcome to participate. You do not need to be abstinent, but are asked to arrive sober. Participation in group discussions is encouraged but not mandatory.

Education and discussion topics include: mental health and emotions, harm reduction, identity and masculinity, communication and relationships, SMART Recovery, addiction and trauma, and more.

Times: Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays: 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. | Tuesdays: 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. | Wednesdays: 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

For more information, visit The Ottawa Mission front desk or contact Day Program staff at 613.234.1144 ext. 313, 307, or 323.

Hope Program

The Hope Program offers a supportive and non-judgmental environment where men, including transgender men and non-binary individuals, can explore their goals and make meaningful changes through group programming and individualized counseling.

Located in a dedicated wing of The Ottawa Mission, the Hope Program uses a harm-reduction approach to substance use health to support men while they work toward stability, housing, and improved well-being. Hope is a 3 month, 12-bed live in program.

As the Hope Program utilizes a harm reduction framework, abstinence is not a program requirement. The Hope Program is designed to be low barrier, prioritizing human connection and safety.

This program is open to men experiencing homelessness, substance use health challenges, or mental health challenges. Housed clients in the community can also access the Hope Program for a condensed stay.

For more information, visit The Mission front desk or contact Hope Program staff at 613.234.1144 ext. 313, 323 or 307.

Stabilization Program

Stabilization is a 13-bed, live-in, abstinence-based program designed to promote stability and enhance substance use health in early recovery.

The program seeks to empower clients to learn how to structure their free time in positive ways, make healthy choices, maintain sobriety, and reconnect with the community before transitioning into safe housing and/or further addictions programming.

In a supportive environment, you’ll

  • receive individual addictions counselling;
  • find support in recovery-focused group sessions which cover a variety of topics such as grounding and mindfulness, spirituality, emotional awareness, and relapse prevention skills
  • access The Ottawa Mission’s wraparound supports.

Participants must be sober at least 24 hours prior to intake.

This program is designed for men who are experiencing homelessness and identify as having substance use health challenges.

For more information, visit The Mission front desk or contact Stabilization Program staff at 613.234.1144 ext. 288 or 299.

The LifeHouse Program is a 5-month, abstinence-based, live-in treatment program for men with a history of trauma and addiction who are looking to rebuild their lives.

Located in a quiet neighbourhood, LifeHouse provides a supportive environment where clients can:

  • work individually with addiction and trauma therapists and counsellors;
  • actively take part in recovery-focused group therapy sessions and educational programs;
  • access employment, educational, and housing case management and supports.

This program is designed for men who are experiencing substance use challenges and who are currently or at risk of becoming homeless.

To enter, clients must have a referral from The Mission’s Stabilization program or an approved community-based, abstinence-based program.
